More first grade conversations.

Conversation 1:

My Former Student:
I know that Ms. C is pregnant!

Another Teacher:
Yeah! She is! How do you know?

My Former Student:
Because she is wearing special pants.

Conversation 2:

Student:
Your baby is growing.

Me:
Yes, he is growing bigger everyday!

Student:
But it's getting so big! It didn't used to be that big, and now it's so big.

Me:
You're right, and he's only going to get bigger and bigger!

Student:
When are you gonna take it out

Me:
...(thinking)...ummm... he'll be born around February....
(then I walked away)

So not only did we find out that baby is a boy on Wednesday, but right afterwards, we went to Lakeside to meet with our real estate agent, and wrote an offer on this super-cute house that we fell in love with in Daly City.

Afterwards, we treated ourselves to In N Out, and did a sneaky drive-by to check out the house one more time. The neighborhood was so calm and quiet. It was dark out, but people were walking their dogs, going on jogs, etc. It felt so nostalgic, like The Adventures of Pete and Pete mixed with my own childhood memories of growing up in a suburban tract house neighborhood. It reminded me of Autumn, Halloween, and the holidays.

The offer was due Friday morning, and by the afternoon, we found out that they had accepted! J met me in Union Square and told me the good news. We were jumping up and down and super excited! People on the street were yelling at us, but we had no idea what they were saying. We didn't care!

We had been house hunting all summer long and felt pretty discouraged by the end. Everything in the city was outrageously over-priced and buyers were over-bidding on their offers. We took a break for a while, but then came across this house on Redfin and decided to check it out. When we went to the open house, it felt completely different from the other 50+ houses and condos we had seen. We fell IN LOVE with this one and it felt so perfect! We feel so lucky that it'll be ours very soon!

On Wednesday, we had our ultrasound appointment and found out that the baby is healthy and likes to roll around in my belly. It was face-down at first, then on its side, then on its back. There's so much room in there!

Also, we found out the sex of our baby!

We had our ultrasound tech, Susan, write it on a card and put it in an envelope.
Then, we drove down to the Musee Mecanique, which is pretty much a warehouse filled with penny-arcade machines and games from the early 1900's, in Fisherman's Wharf.

We got into a film-processing photo booth (not one of the digital ones that you see today, and yes, I had to be snobby about what kind of photo booth we got into), and then, we opened the envelope!

This is what it said:

The photo strip on the left shows our reactions from when we found out. I love J's face in the second and third frames. I'm really glad we got to capture the moment on film.

It's a boy!

Boy or girl?

Kakadodo or Zebra?
(My 3-year-old niece's name ideas)

Mickey or Kelly?

Hopefully, we find out this Wednesday at our ultrasound!

Funny first grade conversations regarding my pregnancy.

(The wall by my desk at work)

Conversation 1:

Reading Specialist:
"...and I'm so happy to work with you all this year! Plus, you have a great teacher!"

Student A:
"Our teacher has a baby!"

Reading Specialist:
"...Uh, yes! That's right, she's having a baby!"

Student B:
"We're gonna see it come out!"

Me:
"No... I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen."

Conversation 2:

Student A:
"Are we going to see your baby?!?"

Me:
"Yeah! I'll come visit with the baby after it's born!"

Student A:
"What if it accidentally comes out during class?"

Me:
"Don't worry, that won't happen."

Student B:
"Yeah, it won't happen cause the baby can only come out if she cuts her stomach open."

Me, not wanting them to get freaked out about a stomach being cut open:
"Actually, that's not true. It can come out in other ways without cutting."

Student A:
"How?"

Me:
"I can't tell you that. You have to ask your doctor."

It's that time of the year again!
I always get so excited around mid September because Fall is here and that means the holiday season is right around the corner! Also, pumpkin everything!

The other day, I bought a crappy $3 pumpkin pie at Smart and Final. Microwaving it and then smelling it reminded me of the holidays, and it made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Also, every year, I bake these chocolate chip pumpkin cookies and this year is no exception. However, now that J is gluten intolerant, I made these gluten free (and vegan because I didn't have eggs or milk, but that's a good thing because it allowed me to eat the batter).

They turned out better than I thought they would!

Happy Fall!

We had the champagne sparkling cider brunch today at the Cliff House Terrace Room with the family and it reminded me of when I took these photos upon moving to San Francisco.

I can't believe how much time has passed and how much has changed since summer 2011, but I'm really excited for everything that is going on and can't wait for what's next.

Yesterday, I felt the baby move for the first time. For reals, this time. All the other times, I wasn't really sure, thought that it might have been gas or whatever. But yesterday, I was pretty sure because it was unlike anything I've ever felt before. I can only describe it as small ripples of movement through jell-o. Yesterday, while half asleep, I think I said something weird, like it felt like the way a lion's roar sounds... haha I don't know. That's weird.

A smaller, 13-week belly.

Aside from being super hormonal and emotional, my pregnancy symptoms seem to be fading away. I was kind of freaking out for the past few days because I kept thinking, "What if I'm not pregnant?", because honestly, I just didn't feel pregnant anymore!

But then, after thinking about this for a good two minutes, I realized that I'm just being silly, because:

1. I am still peeing, like, all the time.

2. My back hurts every morning.

3. I am always hungry.

4. I'm having crazy dreams.

5. My belly is growing.

6. Not being nauseous anymore should be a GOOD thing.

and 7. I love 7. We heard baby's heartbeat again today and it was still the best sound ever.

School has started and my students are super cute!
Nicholas, a boy in my class, is really excited about my baby and likes to talk to me about him/her all the time (he also gave me the drawings pictured above).

The other day, he said that if the baby is a girl, then her name is Kelly. If it's a boy, then his name is Mickey (sounds a lot like Nicki, which is his nick name).

Today, he said, "I hope your baby is cute. I hope your baby is not bald".
I asked, "Why not?"
He says, "So he can stay warm".

Later in the day, when it was time to say goodbye, he said,
"Bye! I hope your baby grows well!".

Too adorable!
