I am obsessed with baby clothes.

This was a super nice gift from J's cousin who was visiting from New York. It is my favorite outfit so far and I hope baby can wear it eeeeverrryyydayyyyyy!

Also in today's post:

A recent first grade conversation.

Me:
What do you think I should be for Halloween?

Student:
(thinking)... A snowman.

Me:
That's a really good idea. Why do you think I should be a snowman?

Student:
Because you're fat and you have a baby coming and snowmen are big and fat.

Me:
Oh. Ok. Thanks.

More first grade conversations.

Conversation 1:

My Former Student:
I know that Ms. C is pregnant!

Another Teacher:
Yeah! She is! How do you know?

My Former Student:
Because she is wearing special pants.

Conversation 2:

Student:
Your baby is growing.

Me:
Yes, he is growing bigger everyday!

Student:
But it's getting so big! It didn't used to be that big, and now it's so big.

Me:
You're right, and he's only going to get bigger and bigger!

Student:
When are you gonna take it out?

Me:
...(thinking)...ummm... he'll be born around February....
(then I walked away)

Funny first grade conversations regarding my pregnancy.

(The wall by my desk at work)

Conversation 1:

Reading Specialist:
"...and I'm so happy to work with you all this year! Plus, you have a great teacher!"

Student A:
"Our teacher has a baby!"

Reading Specialist:
"...Uh, yes! That's right, she's having a baby!"

Student B:
"We're gonna see it come out!"

Me:
"No... I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen."

Conversation 2:

Student A:
"Are we going to see your baby?!?"

Me:
"Yeah! I'll come visit with the baby after it's born!"

Student A:
"What if it accidentally comes out during class?"

Me:
"Don't worry, that won't happen."

Student B:
"Yeah, it won't happen cause the baby can only come out if she cuts her stomach open."

Me, not wanting them to get freaked out about a stomach being cut open:
"Actually, that's not true. It can come out in other ways without cutting."

Student A:
"How?"

Me:
"I can't tell you that. You have to ask your doctor."

School has started and my students are super cute!
Nicholas, a boy in my class, is really excited about my baby and likes to talk to me about him/her all the time (he also gave me the drawings pictured above).

The other day, he said that if the baby is a girl, then her name is Kelly. If it's a boy, then his name is Mickey (sounds a lot like Nicki, which is his nick name).

Today, he said, "I hope your baby is cute. I hope your baby is not bald".
I asked, "Why not?"
He says, "So he can stay warm".

Later in the day, when it was time to say goodbye, he said,
"Bye! I hope your baby grows well!".

Too adorable!

Some (but not all) of my favorite children's books from my library.

I started building my library about four years ago when I decided to teach in Taipei. I was afraid that they wouldn't have some of my favorite books, so I started hunting for bargain books at thrift stores like a crazy person. Turns out, the schools I taught at had all the books I needed, and I ended up hauling my collection back to the states. After starting at my current school, I didn't think to add to my personal library since we pretty much had ALL the books in class...and then some.

During the last week of school this past June, I found out I was four weeks pregnant. We just happened to be cleaning out our classroom library and getting rid of a ton of books, so I decided to add to my collection once again and now it is HUGE! The baby doesn't have a nursery yet, but he or she will have a bunch of books, which I am so excited about!

I'm really looking forward to reading our baby the books that I enjoyed as a child, along with the books that I've read to my students, and can't wait to get a nice bookshelf for his or her little library.

Work started this past week and I've been busy setting up the classroom.

This is what it looked like when I got back on the first day.

Boxes everywhere! Furniture in all the wrong places!
This is probably one of the most stressful things about coming back after summer. They wax the floors so they move all your furniture around, and everything is packed up into boxes in case they need the room for summer school.

But after lots of moving, organizing, and unpacking, things are now back to normal.

First day of school books are on the shelf and our first morning message is written on the message board.

The listening center has a new bookshelf to accommodate our growing listening library!

The leveled library:

View from the library:

My favorite spot in the whole entire classroom: my desk! I didn't have my own desk during my first year so I especially appreciate having a work space of my own.

School starts tomorrow! I think I'm ready now!
